Being an odia , my love for fish and potato is immense. Fresh rohu fish first deep fried then cooked with the spices is the way of how odia loves to eat fish . There are so many fish recipes available in India but today I am gonna write about odia style of cooking fish curry .
Rohu Fish curry
Rohu fish pieces – 4-5
Potato – 2 (cut it into 4 pieces)
Tomato – 1
Mustard oil for deep fry and cooking
Rice flour- 3-4 tbsp
Turmeric -3 tbsp
Kashmiri Red chili powder- 1 and 1/2 tbsp
Cumin powder- 1 tbsp
Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
Salt as per taste
Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
Water – 2-3 cups
For masala paste –
Grind 1 onion, 7-8 garlic cloves, 2 inches Ginger piece, 2 green chilli .
*First clean the fish then marinate it with 2 tbsp of turmeric powder, 1 tbsp of red chilli powder,3 tbsp of rice flour(or you can add cornflour),2 tbsp of mustard oil and salt as per taste for atleast half an hour . Keep it aside.
*At this time grind the masala paste mentioned earlier.
*Heat oil for deep frying. First deep fry the potato pieces for at least 10 min in low – medium flame .
*Then deep fry all the fish pieces in medium flame. Fish pieces should be in golden colour. You can have it as fish fry too .
*After deep frying take out the extra oil and use only 3-4 tbsp of oil.
*Add the onion ,ginger , garlic masala paste and sauté it for 2-3 min then add tomato pieces. Add salt and cover it for a minute.
* Now add 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 1 and half of kashmiri red chilli powder, coriander and cumin powder. Add little bit of water . Give it a nice stir .
* When oil starts separating from the gravy add the fried potatoes and cover it for 2 min .
* Again add half cup of water and Cook it for 2 min , then add all the fried fish pieces. Mix everything well.
*Then add 2 cups of water , chopped coriander leaves.
*Bring it into a nice boil . And switch off the flame. And it’s done.
Have it with rice . And it tastes delicious.
